ROOTS 7 Defensive Control – Defensive blade
THE DEFENSIVE BLADE FOR CLASSIC DEFENDERS
The ROOTS 7 is a defensive blade for the classic defender. It has a solid basic speed and plays relatively softly so that the balls can be guided safely and controlled. The large blade in the typical defensive shape has a particularly large sweet spot and therefore a very large hit zone. This makes the blade very top-heavy, which makes playing extremely rotation-rich balls very easy.
WHAT CHARACTERISTICS MUST A GOOD DEFENSIVE BLADE HAVE?
The most important characteristics for a good defensive blade are:
- HIGH CONTROL VALUES
- LONG BALL CONTACT TIMES
- MODERATE SPEED
- BIG SWEETSPOT
A good defensive blade should be easy to control without losing too much speed. That’s why we chose a combination of a KIRI core veneer with extra thick SPRUCE outer veneers. The thick KIRI core provides the necessary speed, while the FICHTE makes the blade particularly soft and sensitive.
We use only self-made and selected saw veneers from high mountain Spruce – this wood is particularly tough and very soft, which ensures long ball contact times. This allows the ball to be guided very safely and played with a lot of spin.
“The ROOTS 7 has a long handle of 103mm – fast and frequent turning is possible without losing the secure hold. In addition, the long handle serves as a counterweight to the large blade, so that the blade does not become too top-heavy, but is perfectly balanced for defensive play.
“The combination of G3 and G4 results in a wonderfully rounded handle that fits the hand perfectly. Due to the flattened shape towards the end of the handle, the blade can easily be turned from forehand to backhand.”
“The 3D handle runs out gently to the front right so that the index finger doesn’t have to lie on an unpleasant edge. We chose Walnut wood for the material”.
“The thick Spruce outer layers make the blade extremely soft, resulting in a particularly long contact time with the ball. The longer the contact time, the more spin the recoil gets and the safer the ball can be placed. The Kiri core veneer gives the blade the necessary basic speed, so you can attack in spite of defensive play style purposefully”.
DEF – The blade size for defensive blades
To enlarge the sweetspot even further, we decided to design a completely new blade size ‘DEF’ for defending players.
The blade size ‘DEF’ with 162 x 156 mm is a bit larger than size ‘L’. This makes the blade very top-heavy, which makes playing extremely rotation-rich balls very easy.
